Jan Akkerman at jazz lives in Syria 2008. Jan Akkerman (guitar), Coen Molenaar (keyboards), Wilbrand Meischke (bass), Remco Van Der Sluis (drums) Jan Akkerman is one of the most prolific jazz scene veterans. He took his first guitar lesson at the age of 5, and released his first single at 14. Since then, this versatile musician has done it all. In addition to collaborating with other musicians such as BB King, Charlie Byrd, Alan Price, Peter Banks, Herman Brood, Cozy Powell, Claus Ogerman, and Ice-T, he was a member of internationally acclaimed bands including Brainbox and Focus, and has released more than a dozen solo records. Whether it's Tabernakel, his 1973 album, or CU, released in 2003, he puts his signature on a unique combination of rock, jazz, blues, classical, and dance music. Akkerman's distinctive guitar sound is characterized by his avant-garde use of volume swells, the thing that produces a smooth, fluty, sustained note. Jan has toured internationally, appearing several times at the Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival and the Dutch North Sea Jazz Festival, in addition to performances in Japan, Russia, North and South America, and Australia. Jan's contribution to the music scene has been recognized with a Best Guitarist of the World Honor by the readers of the UK magazine, Melody Maker, and a Golden Harp Award in 2005 for lifetime achievement.
